Knowing How to Use Your Gua Sha Tool is Important when working on your face

OVERVIEW

  • Apply a liberal amount of oil to skin.  Amount will vary with skin type and moisture level.  Make sure tool is clean.

  • Use upward/outward strokes along the curvature of the face, 6-10 strokes at a time.  Repeat as needed to relieve tension or when Sha (pink or red) appears. On the medial lateral side of the neck use a downward motion to move congestion from lymph nodes.

  • Pressure is firm but not too deep. Do not overdo -- the skin on the face and neck is thin and can bruise easily.  BE CAUTIOUS AT FIRST.

  • Apply lighter pressure and slow speed when going over the Larynx at the center of the front of neck.

  • You can use a gliding motion, a short brushing motion or pressured static motion depending on the area. You will figure out what works best for you!

  • IMPORTANT NOTE:  Use only light flat pressure under the eye.  Do not use pointed end of tool around eye socket.

SECTION 1 - CHEEK AND JAWLINE

  • Step One:  Tilt head back slightly. Start at the jawline and go under the curve of the jaw, under the middle of the chin and head towards the ear.

  • Step Two:  Go down in the front of the SCM (see down arrow) towards the collar bone.  This can be done in one fell swoop.

  • Step Three:  Start again at the middle of the chin along the jawline and go up towards the bottom of the ear.

  • Step Four:  Start at the side of the mouth and go up towards the middle of the ear.  You will be under the cheekbone at this point.

  • Step Five:  Start at the side of the nose and go over the cheekbone towards the side of the face, below the outside of the eye.

  • Repeat 8-15 times on both sides.

SECTION 2 - EYE AND EYEBROW

  • Step Six:  Flatten tool and press lightly as you start from the bridge of your nose and go under the eye following the natural curve until you reach outside.  ***DO NOT use the pointed end of your Gua Sha tool under the eye or anywhere around the eye with pressure.

  • Step Seven:  Head to the inside of the eyebrow.  Use a pointed edge or side of your tool and press in and upward under your eyebrow and hold for 4 seconds or as long as is comfortable.  Release and repeat along the eyebrow, just under the hairline of your brow..

  • Step Eight:  To stimulate the main nerve on the forehead to get the best lift at the middle of your eyebrow, find the middle of your eye (iris), line it up with the middle of your eyebrow, go 1/2 inch above the hairline of your brow, apply pressure then go straight up to the top the the forehead.  Repeat 8-15x on both sides.

  • NOTE:  You will release sinus pressure and tension from headaches when you work in this area.
